Delhi Monsoon Likely by July 4, IMD Forecasts Relief from Scorching Heat

After days of sweltering heat and sticky humidity, Delhi-NCR may finally get much-needed relief as the southwest monsoon is expected to reach the national capital by July 4, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather department has indicated that conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the monsoon to advance across northern India over the next five to six days.

Delhi has been witnessing unusually hot and humid weather due to the delay in the arrival of the monsoon.

Over the past few days, both daytime temperatures and nighttime conditions have remained uncomfortable, with high humidity making it feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature. Weather experts say the prolonged wait for monsoon showers has contributed to the intense heat stress across the region.

The IMD has forecast that the southwest monsoon is likely to make steady progress over Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan in the coming days. If weather conditions remain favourable, Delhi is expected to receive its first widespread monsoon showers by July 4, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Before the monsoon officially sets in, residents may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. These pre-monsoon showers are expected to provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave-like conditions, although humidity levels may remain high until the monsoon fully establishes itself.

Meanwhile, the weather department has advised people to remain cautious during periods of intense heat, especially during afternoon hours. Staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure, and following weather updates are recommended until rainfall becomes more widespread.

The arrival of the monsoon is eagerly awaited across Delhi-NCR, as it marks the beginning of cooler weather and offers relief from one of the hottest and most humid spells of the season. In addition to reducing temperatures, the rains are expected to improve air quality and replenish water resources across the region.

According to meteorologists, while the monsoon has progressed steadily across many parts of the country, its advance into northwest India has been slightly delayed this year. However, the latest forecast suggests that atmospheric conditions are now favourable for a rapid progression, raising hopes that Delhi and neighbouring states will soon receive widespread rainfall.
