Pakistan Launches Major Border Operation, Claims 29 Militants Killed

Pakistan has announced that its security forces carried out a large-scale operation along the Afghanistan border, claiming that 29 militants were killed during coordinated ground action followed by targeted strikes on suspected militant positions.

The operation comes amid heightened security concerns after a series of deadly attacks inside Pakistan.

According to Pakistani officials, the mission was based on intelligence inputs and focused on dismantling militant hideouts located in the border region. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the operation was launched in response to recent attacks targeting security personnel and civilians across different parts of the country.

The military stated that the offensive targeted members of armed groups it holds responsible for carrying out cross-border attacks.

However, it did not disclose operational details, including the exact locations of the strikes or the weapons used during the mission.

The operation follows a major militant assault in Karachi, where gunmen and suicide attackers struck the provincial headquarters of the Pakistan Rangers. The attack resulted in the deaths of three security personnel and left several others injured. Authorities said the latest border operation was intended as a response to that incident and other recent acts of violence.

There was no immediate official response from Afghanistan regarding Pakistan’s latest announcement. In previous incidents, Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration has rejected Islamabad’s allegations that militant groups operate freely from Afghan territory.

The issue has remained one of the biggest sources of friction between the two neighbouring countries.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have become increasingly strained in recent months as both sides accuse each other of failing to prevent cross-border militancy. Pakistan has repeatedly alleged that militants linked to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) use Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks, while Afghan authorities deny providing safe haven to such groups.

Security analysts say the latest operation highlights Pakistan’s intensified campaign against militant networks amid a rise in attacks targeting military installations and law enforcement agencies.

At the same time, observers warn that continued cross-border military action could further increase tensions between Islamabad and Kabul unless both countries strengthen security cooperation and diplomatic engagement.

The situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains closely watched, with concerns that further retaliatory actions could deepen instability in an already volatile region.

Authorities in Pakistan have said operations against militant groups will continue as part of broader efforts to improve national security.
