STOCKTON, California. — A festive family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton turned deadly on Saturday evening when gunfire erupted, leaving four people dead and ten others wounded, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened around 6:00 p.m. local time at a hall on the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue. Deputies arriving at the scene found 14 victims in total — four confirmed dead, and ten others rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. The victims include both adults and minors.
Authorities have described the incident as likely “targeted,” though a motive or suspects have not yet been publicly identified. Detectives continue to comb through evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements as part of an ongoing manhunt.
Local officials described the gathering as a family get-together — some reports suggest it may have included a child’s birthday celebration — now shattered by violence.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Stockton’s community, already weary from rising gun violence across California. Leaders and residents alike expressed grief and outrage.
In a public statement, the sheriff’s office urged everyone present that evening — or anyone else with relevant video footage or information — to come forward. “Community cooperation is critical to help catch those responsible,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, city and state officials, including Gavin Newsom, have been briefed on the incident. Relief and counselling services are being mobilized for survivors and affected families.
The investigation remains active. As police search for leads, they warn that the public should avoid the area near Lucile Avenue until further notice. No arrests have been made so far.
This deadly episode is the latest in a spate of mass shootings sweeping across the region — a grim reminder of the urgent need for community vigilance and stricter gun control measures.
