New Delhi: Delhi’s ongoing voter-list revision has highlighted significant gaps in the submission of enumeration forms across several Assembly constituencies, with Tughlakabad recording the highest number of forms that were not collected, followed by Okhla.
According to data from the voter-list revision exercise, 92,033 out of 1,92,419 enumeration forms in Tughlakabad were not collected. This means nearly half of the forms in the constituency remained uncollected during the exercise.
Okhla stood second, with 1,63,829 forms reported as missing out of the total forms issued there. The figures have drawn attention because the enumeration exercise is a key part of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls.
The revision involves verification of voters through an extensive enumeration process. Voters whose forms were not submitted or collected do not automatically lose their right to vote. Their names may, however, not appear in the draft electoral roll and they can use the claims and objections process to seek inclusion.
Delhi’s draft electoral roll has excluded around 47.7 lakh names from the earlier electoral database, while approximately 97.5 lakh electors were included in the draft following the enumeration exercise.
The Election Commission has provided an opportunity for eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft list to submit claims for inclusion. The claims and objections window is open until September 30, after which the applications will be examined before the final electoral roll is prepared.
The large variation between constituencies has also brought attention to voter participation in the enumeration process. Earlier data showed that Tughlakabad had the lowest form submission rate among Delhi’s constituencies, at around 52 per cent, while Okhla’s submission rate was about 54.66 per cent.
The exercise is aimed at updating Delhi’s electoral rolls and ensuring that eligible voters are properly included. Voters are therefore being advised to check the draft list and take corrective action if their names are missing.
