A decades-old medical incident has become the center of a fresh legal battle for legendary singer Udit Narayan. His first wife, Ranjana Jha, has approached the authorities in Supaul, Bihar, to file a formal complaint involving not just the singer, but also his siblings and his second spouse.
Significant Claims of Medical Deception
The most serious portion of the complaint involves an incident from 1996. Ranjana states that she was admitted to a major hospital in Delhi under the impression that she was receiving standard medical care. Instead, she alleges that a hysterectomy (the removal of her uterus) was performed without her permission or any prior briefing. She only became aware of this permanent procedure much later during a visit to a different doctor. She describes this act as a calculated conspiracy that has left her physically and emotionally scarred.

Udit Narayan’s Defense: Claims of Extortion
In recent court appearances, Udit Narayan has taken a firm stand against these new allegations:
* The “Extortion” Argument: He has reportedly refused any further out-of-court settlements, alleging that Ranjana is attempting to extort money from him.
* Provision of Assets: Sources close to the singer claim he has already provided significant support over the years, including a house and farmland worth approximately ₹1 crore, jewelry worth ₹25 lakh, and a monthly allowance (which was increased to ₹25,000 in 2021).

History of the Marriage
* Early Years: The couple tied the knot in a traditional ceremony on December 7, 1984.
* The Fallout: Their relationship deteriorated after the singer moved to Mumbai to find success in the music industry.
* Betrayal: Ranjana states she was left in the dark about her husband’s personal life until the media revealed he had entered into a second marriage. According to her, the singer avoided her questions and offered no explanations when confronted.
Current Situation
Ranjana is currently seeking justice, citing physical harassment, broken commitments, and extreme financial distress. She claims to be living in poverty while dealing with chronic health issues. As of February 2026, the police are investigating the feasibility of the charges, particularly the medical claims from the 90s, which would require tracing very old hospital documentation.
