Islamabad: A massive explosion rocked Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Friday, leaving at least 10 people dead and around 30 injured, according to initial reports. Authorities believe the blast was a suicide bombing.
The explosion occurred in the Tarlai area of Islamabad shortly after Friday prayers, triggering panic across the city. Emergency services rushed to the spot, and a state of emergency was declared in nearby hospitals.
Officials said the number of casualties may rise as several injured remain in critical condition. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
This is not the first such attack in the capital. In November last year, a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the Islamabad District Judicial Complex, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens.
Authorities are yet to confirm the group behind the latest attack.
