Border 2 Box Office Day 1: Sunny Deol’s Roaring Comeback Smashes Multiple Records

When a name echoes at the box office after 28 long years, it’s not just a film—it becomes an emotion. Powered by patriotism, high-octane action and Sunny Deol’s iconic roar, Border 2 has stormed into cinemas, shattering several box office records on its very first day.

Released on January 23, the film stars Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. Benefiting from the Republic Day weekend, the war drama opened to packed theatres and overwhelming audience response. The buzz was evident even before release, with advance bookings crossing ₹17 crore.

According to early Sacnilk estimates, Border 2 collected over ₹30 crore net in India on Day 1, while its worldwide gross stands close to ₹35 crore. This marks the biggest opening in the careers of Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.

Although the film couldn’t surpass Sunny Deol’s previous blockbuster Gadar 2 (₹40 crore opening), trade analysts are calling Border 2’s start historic.

Records Broken

Border 2 has emerged as the biggest opening film of 2026 so far, surpassing:

  • Chhaava (₹33 crore)
  • Dhurandhar (₹28 crore)
  • Saiyaara (₹21 crore)

It also outperformed Sunny Deol’s last release Jaat, which opened at ₹11 crore—a record Border 2 broke even before release through advance bookings.

Weekend Outlook

With a solo release, strong word-of-mouth and the Republic Day holiday advantage, Border 2 is expected to cross the ₹200 crore mark within its first weekend. The January 26 Monday test could further boost collections, while upcoming releases like Mardaani 3 are unlikely to dent its momentum.

Nearly three decades after the original Border, this sequel has transformed into a nationwide celebration. The coming days will decide whether Border 2 can surpass Gadar 2 and script an even bigger box office legacy.
