An Indian student from Haryana, who had recently moved to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education, has died after a brutal street stabbing in Worcester, central England. Vijay Kumar Sheoran, 30, was found with critical stab wounds on Barbourne Road in the early hours of November 25 and was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to West Mercia Police.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation and arrested five men on suspicion of involvement; all have been released on bail while inquiries continue, while a sixth man who was initially detained has been cleared of further action. Officers have appealed to witnesses and anyone with CCTV or phone footage from the area to come forward, stressing that even seemingly minor details could help piece together what happened.
Sheoran hailed from Jagrambas village in Charkhi Dadri district, Haryana, and had earlier worked with the Central Board of Excise and Customs before resigning this year to study in the UK. He was enrolled at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol and was seen by relatives as the hope of the family, having taken the risk of leaving a secure government job to pursue an international degree.
His elder brother, Ravi Kumar, has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking immediate intervention to ensure a transparent investigation and swift repatriation of the body. The family says they are overwhelmed by foreign legal procedures, paperwork, and costs, and have urged the Indian High Commission in London and the Haryana government to step in and support them.
Haryana BJP MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan has also called for coordinated assistance from the Centre and state, demanding a fair, time-bound probe so that those responsible for the killing are held accountable.
