New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh rainfall warnings for several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon remains active. According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in multiple states over the next few days, with parts of the Northeast likely to experience the most intense spell.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh on August 4 and 5. Papum Pare district is expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and very heavy rain at isolated places. Other northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, are also likely to receive widespread rainfall during the week.
In North India, Delhi-NCR is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky with intermittent light to moderate rain. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in isolated areas, providing relief from humid conditions but potentially causing traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Apart from the Northeast and Delhi, the weather office has warned of heavy rainfall across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and parts of southern India. Strong winds and thunderstorms may accompany the rain in many regions.
The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. People living in landslide-prone and flood-prone regions have been urged to follow local administration advisories and keep track of official weather updates.
Authorities have also cautioned that persistent rainfall could lead to waterlogging in urban areas, flash floods in vulnerable locations and disruptions to road and transport services. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and stay updated with the latest forecasts.
