New Delhi: The Indian government has added 11 more international entry points to the list of ports where eligible foreign travellers holding an Indian e-Visa can enter the country. The newly designated points include the Attari land port in Punjab along the India-Pakistan border.
With this expansion, the total number of authorised entry points for e-Visa holders has increased to 88, comprising 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.
Attari Border Added for E-Visa Entry
The Attari (Road) land port is among nine newly added land entry points. Other additions include Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki and Moreh. Raxaul, Rupaidiha and Jogbani were already authorised entry points for e-Visa holders.
The government has also added Bhopal and Tirupati airports to the e-Visa entry network.
Pakistani Nationals Not Eligible for E-Visa
The new facility does not apply to Pakistani passport holders or foreign nationals of Pakistani origin, as they are not eligible for an Indian e-Visa. According to the Indian visa portal, such travellers must apply for a regular visa through an Indian Mission.
The e-Visa facility is available across several categories, including tourism, business, medical treatment, student travel, transit, mountaineering and cruise travel. The government says around 95% of e-Visa applications are processed within 72 hours.
India’s E-Visa Network Expands
India introduced the e-Visa facility in 2014 for citizens of 43 countries. The scheme has since expanded and is now available to nationals of 172 countries.
The addition of Attari and other entry points is aimed at making the e-Visa system more accessible and expanding the options available to eligible international travellers entering India.
