Film Director Shakeel Noorani Arrested in Alleged Rape Case, Sent to Police Custody

Mumbai: Veteran filmmaker Shakeel Noorani, 73, has been arrested by Mumbai Police in connection with an alleged rape and sexual assault case involving a 33-year-old actor.

According to the police complaint, the actor had gone to Noorani’s residence in Mumbai’s Malwani area after he allegedly invited her to discuss an upcoming film project. She has alleged that Noorani sexually assaulted her during the meeting.

Actor Alleges She Was Drugged and Threatened

The complaint alleges that Noorani drugged the actor and subsequently threatened her. Police have registered a case based on her allegations and conducted an investigation before making the arrest.

Noorani was produced before the Borivali Holiday Court following his arrest. The court has sent him to police custody until August 12.

According to other reports, police traced Noorani to a farmhouse in Maharashtra after he had reportedly been evading authorities. His lawyer has denied the allegations against him.
